Once admitted to an American University degree program, students cannot enroll directly at member schools of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area and transfer credit back. Enrollment at participating Consortium Schools should be done through American University's Consortium registration process.
American University is a semester school, and uses the Carnegie Classification definition of a credit hour. All credits or course units earned at non-semester institutions will be converted to semester credit hours on student records.

American University grants Advanced Standing exam credit for Advanced Placement (AP), Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), British A Level, and International Baccalaureate (IB), per qualifying score(s). All other exams are reviewed on a case by case basis. Advanced Standing exams may not be used to satisfy AU Core requirements.

2) “International Baccalaureate” [for IB, please note that AU only accepts Higher Level (HL) exams and not Standard Level (SL) exams]
