TRANSFER PATHWAYS GUIDE: HEALTH SCIENCES AND PHARMACY
Drake offers degree programs in Health Sciences and Pharmacy. All of these programs require additional coursework at Drake. Find additional information from the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Students are not required to take any or all of these courses in order to transfer to Drake but may use this as a guide to take applicable coursework for these degree programs.

Using Drake's Transfer Pathways Guides
Many courses from Southwestern Community College transfer to Drake; check TES for additional transfer course details. The courses listed here are required in the following majors and can be completed either before or after transfer to Drake. Students are encouraged to work with their Southwestern Community College advisor to develop a plan that utilizes as many of these courses as possible to satisfy core and elective requirements for their degree program.

General Education Articulation Agreement
Drake honors Associate of Arts (AA degrees) and Associate of Sciences (AS degrees) from the state of Iowa community college system, including Southwestern Community College, to complete Drake's general education curriculum (known as the Areas of Inquiry). Students must complete 60 transferable credits with a minimum 2.0 GPA to qualify.

Reverse transfer to complete the AA or AS with one or two Drake courses is also possible. If you have questions, please discuss this possibility with a Drake Admission Counselor or a SWCC advisor.

Health Science - Core Curriculum
Health Science has two tracks: Clinical & Applied, for students pursuing professional health careers (such as medicine, pharmacy, occupational therapy, athletic training, dentistry, etc.) and Health Care Administration & Public Health, for students pursuing careers on the business management or public health side of health care. Both tracks require a common set of courses; Southwestern Community College equivalents are listed below.

Both BIO 112 and BIO 114 transfer as BIO 012+012L General Biology I; students do not need to take both courses.

In order to receive credit for both HSCI 125+141, students must take both BIO 168 and 173 at SWCC.

In addition, students in the Clinical & Applied track must complete one of the following: Organic Chemistry I, Physics I, or Microbiology. This course can be completed while at SWCC or after transferring to Drake. Students who take more than one of these advanced science courses will earn professional elective credit for the additional science course(s).

MATH 020 Precalculus is a pre-requisite for Physics and Calculus, so it is recommended for students at Southwestern Community College to complete prior to those courses. Either MAT 127 College Algebra & Trigonometry or MAT 128 Precalculus will transfer as MATH 020; students do not need to take both.

Pharmacy
This transfer guide is for students planning to complete an associate's degree and then transfer directly to Drake for Pharmacy. Work with your SWCC advisor to ensure you are completing your other associate's degree requirements in addition to this pre-pharmacy coursework. This guide does not guarantee admission to Drake's Pharmacy school but it does outline all required pre-requisite coursework.

Either SPC 101 or 112 will satisfy the public speaking requirement; students do not need to take both.

Either BIO 112 or BIO 114 will satisfy the General Biology I (BIO 012+012L) requirement; students do not need to take both.

Students must take both BIO 168 and 173 to earn transfer credit for HSCI 125+141.
